Assamite

Divine assassins who hunt the wicked Kindred in the name of their ancient god.

The Assamites, also known as the Followers of Set or the Children of the Sun, are a mysterious and ruthless clan within the Camarilla's shadow, though they operate largely outside its direct jurisdiction for much of their history. Unlike other vampires who feed on blood to sustain their existence, the Assamite view themselves as divine assassins, believing their primary purpose is to hunt down and destroy Kindred who violate the laws of their god or the natural order. They are master spies and killers, renowned for their ability to strike from the shadows and vanish without a trace.

Lore & Background

The Assamites are unique in their use of poison, a weapon they have refined over millennia to create the 'Assassins' Kiss,' a toxin that can kill a vampire without leaving a trace of violence. Their society is strictly hierarchical and secretive, with members often operating alone or in small cells known as 'brotherhoods.' While they were once integrated into the Camarilla's structure, their independent nature and willingness to violate traditional laws for the sake of their mission have frequently put them at odds with other clans, leading to a reputation as the ultimate hunters of the Kindred world.

In Their Own Story

The moon hung low over Cairo, casting long shadows across the ancient alleyways. A young Assamite crouched on a rooftop, his breathing silent, his eyes fixed on the target below—a vampire who had been feeding in public, drawing the attention of mortals. With a flick of his wrist, he released a vial of poison into the wind, letting it drift down like dust. The target coughed once, then collapsed, his body dissolving into ash before anyone could witness the crime. The assassin vanished into the night, leaving no trace but the lingering scent of sand and death.

Reader's Guide

The Assamites operate under a strict code known as the Path of the Assamite, which demands absolute loyalty to their mission of purging unworthy Kindred. Their leadership is decentralized, with each brotherhood led by an elder who answers only to the clan's higher council, if such a body exists at all. Their laws are simple but unforgiving: protect the Masquerade, eliminate those who break it, and never reveal their true identities. They view other clans as either tools or obstacles, depending on whether those clans aid in their mission of purification. Rivalries are intense, particularly with the Tremere, whom they see as arrogant manipulators, and the Ventrue, whose political maneuvering often conflicts with the Assamites' direct approach. Despite these tensions, the Assamites remain a vital force in maintaining the balance between the Kindred and humanity.
