Animalism
Command the wild beasts and silence their fear with your will.
Animalism is a supernatural Discipline that grants vampires dominion over the natural world's lesser creatures, allowing them to command beasts with their will. While often viewed as uncouth or barbaric by high-society Kindred, it remains a vital tool for survival, surveillance, and intimidation in the urban nightscape. Traditionally associated with the Clan Gangrel due to their affinity for the wild, this power can be learned by other vampires who are willing to embrace the predatory instincts that bind them to their animal subjects. It represents the thin line between hunter and prey.

Lore & Background
Animalism taps directly into the Beast within the vampire, channeling that primal aggression to impose authority on other living creatures. Unlike Dominate, which works on the human mind through logic or command, Animalism bypasses reasoning entirely, speaking instead in instincts and pheromones. This makes it exceptionally potent against non-human animals but useless against mortals who lack such raw instinctual drives. In the Sabbat, this Discipline is often celebrated as a sign of embracing one's true nature without shame. However, within the Camarilla, its use can be seen as a violation of decorum, marking the user as too close to the animalistic side of their existence. Despite social stigma, many Kindred rely on it for scouting, as rats and crows offer eyes where cameras cannot reach. The deeper connection required by higher levels risks blurring the line between the vampire's humanity and the mind of the beast they control. Some elders warn that spending too much time merged with a wolf or dog can erode one's own memories, leaving only hunger and instinct behind.
In Their Own Story
Rain slicked the rooftop gravel as Kaelen crouched near the ventilation shaft. Below, in the alleyway, three rats scurried over trash bins. He did not speak; he simply pushed his will outward like a dark tide. The rodents froze, heads tilting upward toward the shadowed figure. One by one, their eyes seemed to glow with borrowed intelligence. Kaelen felt the damp chill of the alley through their whiskers, tasted the rot in the air. He sent a single thought: *Watch.* As they vanished into the storm drain, he knew his target was already being watched.
Reader's Guide
Animalism functions as a bridge between the Kindred’s predatory soul and the instinctual minds of beasts. At its lowest levels, a vampire can issue simple commands to nearby creatures, such as fleeing or attacking an intruder. This power bypasses language, relying on raw dominance and pheromonal pressure that animals perceive as absolute truth. As mastery deepens, the user gains sensory access through their subjects, seeing through rodent eyes or hearing through a wolf’s ears across city blocks. This makes Animalism invaluable for reconnaissance in areas where cameras or mortals are present. However, the connection is fragile; if an animal is too far or too terrified, the link may snap violently. Advanced practitioners can merge their consciousness with a beast entirely, guiding its movements while remaining physically distant. Yet, this risks the Beast within the vampire gaining strength from the animal’s primal rage. Most Kindred who wield Animalism are Gangrel or Sabbat brethren, as the power demands a willingness to embrace the savage rather than suppress it.
